These are some trying times. The world is facing a pandemic of epic proportions. This situation has sent everything into upheaval. From the financial markets to our health care system, everything is under stress and experiencing an uncertain future. A lot of people are very afraid, stressed, and worried. Because of this, we have seen all manner of behavior from people. I have seen people fighting over toilet paper, clearing shelves in the grocery store, and listened to the continual negative outlook on the news. Sometimes it may seem as if things are hopeless. But what the news media does not consider is the American Spirit.
There is something special about this country. We have tremendous freedoms. We have a vast landscape of beauty and incredible natural resources. But what is the most incredible thing about America is the people. Throughout our history, we have had a lot of hard times. From wars to natural disasters, our land has faced many trials and tribulations. But we always come through. I believe it is because of the spirit that we possess. The people of this country are independent. They are smart and resourceful. And they are not afraid to start over after tragic circumstances.
Today, I read a comment on a news website that stated, “America, at our best when things are at their worst”. And it struck me as so truthful. I wondered why, until I realized that the best of us comes out at the worst of times. That beautiful spirit that we all possess as citizens of this country. Whether it is a healthcare worker continuing to care for their patients, or the delivery driver who continues to deliver supplies, our people are incredibly brave and dedicated and refuse to give up. I have seen everyone helping each other, from a child trying to raise money for others, to a restaurant owner delivering meals to those in need.
And I have to say I am proud to be an American. Regardless of how we may not agree with each other, when things get tough, we get tougher. And when our neighbor is in need, we will band together and help each other. That is what makes America great. That is what will get us through this. And that is the essence of who we are. We are united with an energy that will continue regardless of the circumstances. And that energy is the American Spirit.
